Life only Calls When You're Near Death

The night hums quietly,
Like it’s holding its breath.
Snow drifts and flies behind me in elegant circles,
Glowing like heaven's gate under the dead streetlights.
My footsteps vanish like every person who has walked my path,
Faster than I make them.
Like the world keeps shrinking around me,
Every trace I leave behind.
The air tastes like regret and metal,
A warning or a promise.
Somewhere far off,
A shadow moves like it's chosen me.
I don’t run.
I just keep walking,
Hands cold, heart steady.
Let the silence sharpen around me.
The once vibrant city watches me,
The sky waits.
And for one strange moment,
I feel like i’m meant to be here–
Lost,
Fading.
Following the dark snow
Wherever it takes me, I know it’ll
